Frequently Asked Questions

General Massage Experience and My Approach

  • When you arrive we’ll start with a short chat so I can get a sense of what your body needs and what your hopes are for the session. If there’s a specific area bothering you, I might ask you to do some gentle movement or, if you’re comfortable, I may feel the area for signs of tension or tenderness.

Then I will step out to let you get settled. You can undress to your comfort level - it’s entirely up to you - and lie under the sheets on the table. You’ll be fully covered for the whole session, except for the area I’m working on at a time.

I will knock before entering the room and make sure that you’re comfortable whether that’s the temperature of the room or the way you’re positioned. It is really important to me that you feel comfortable from start to finish.

Throughout the session, I’ll check in with you, and we’ll move at a pace that feels right for your body. I know it can feel awkward to speak up if something doesn’t feel quite right - but letting me know only helps create a better, more effective session for you.

At the end, I will invite you to wiggle your fingers and toes, take a deep breath, and a nice full body stretch. Then I’ll step out again so you can take your time getting dressed. When I return, I’ll check in and answer any questions you have.

  • Whether you’re dealing with a specific ache or pain, or you just felt like you needed to be here, we’ll work together to figure out what your body needs.
I’ll use both your input and what I feel in the tissue to guide the treatment. Sometimes the body holds patterns we’re not fully aware of, and part of my role is to notice and respond to those in a way that supports your desired outcome.

  • It is really up to you. If you’re feeling chatty, I enjoy hearing more about you and what’s happening in your life. If you want to talk but aren’t sure where to start, just ask me about my animals and I’ll go on for hours.

If what you’re craving is quiet and stillness, I love holding that kind of space too. Whether you want connection or calm (or a little of both), we’ll follow your lead.

  • Absolutely! I love blending techniques to ease tension while keeping things calm and restorative. We’ll combine styles to create the treatment that feels best for you.

  • I work within a diverse physiotherapy clinic, but the massage room has a softer feel. It’s cozy, with dim lighting, soft music, and a heated table. It is a space that invites you to slow down and settle in.

  • Whatever feels right for you. If you’re comfortable undressing, you’ll be fully covered with sheets, and I’ll only uncover the area I’m working on. If you’d prefer to stay clothed, that’s absolutely fine too. Looser fitting or athletic-style clothing works well, and we can do effective work either directly on the skin or fully over the sheets. The goal is always your comfort and helping your body relax.

New to Massage?

  • The first thing I’ll ask is whether relaxing is even your goal. Some people come to massage simply to have a specific area worked on, and relaxation isn’t part of what they’re looking for — and that’s perfectly okay.

If relaxing is your goal, we can work together to figure out what might be getting in the way. Sometimes it’s feeling uneasy with a stranger’s touch, sometimes it’s a busy mind, or even the worry that slowing down will bring up things you’d rather avoid. You never have to share the reason — and you may not even know it yourself.

By slowly introducing my touch, respecting your space, and using a few gentle relaxation techniques, we can create an environment that helps your body and mind settle in, at a pace that feels right for you.

  • Feeling self-conscious is more common than you might think, and it’s okay to feel that way here. I’m not here to judge your body, I’m here to help you relax and ease discomfort. My goal is for you to feel safe, comfortable, and supported from start to finish.

You are always in control of what you wear during your massage. Some clients choose to undress completely and be fully draped with sheets, while others prefer to stay partially or fully clothed. Whatever feels right for you will always be respected.

  • That’s completely okay and I respect that. If you’re open to trying massage, we can take it at a pace that feels safe for you. I’ll communicate a little more throughout the session to make sure the work stays tolerable and comfortable.

You’re always welcome to book a shorter session, like 30 minutes, and we’ll only treat the areas you’re comfortable having worked on. My goal is to make sure touch never feels weird, awkward, or tickly — just supportive and purposeful.

  • Yes. Massage can be the perfect reset when life feels like too much. Together, we’ll create a soft, quiet space where you can truly power down.

If you haven’t had a massage in a while and you’re at max capacity, I often recommend a full-body relaxation session. This helps calm the nervous system and gently encourages your parasympathetic response (the “rest and digest” mode) to activate. From there, your breathing can slow, your shoulders can drop, and your mind can find the space it needs to handle whatever you’re walking through.

  • Amazing! That means your body was able to find a deep state of rest. The best part is, you’ll still receive all the same therapeutic benefits whether you’re awake or asleep.

Before we begin, we’ll go over your treatment plan so you know exactly what to expect. If I need to work in a more sensitive area (glutes or pec muscles) I’ll check in gently so you can stay relaxed while still being aware of what’s coming next.

  • It’s more common than you might think. Massage can help release tension your body has been holding — sometimes that includes emotions. You don’t need to apologize or feel embarrassed if it happens.

My role is to hold space for whatever comes up, without judgment and without rushing you through it. You’re welcome to talk about what you’re feeling, or we can stay quiet and simply let you be. Either way, you’re safe here.

  • First, please know this: you are important to me and you are just as deserving of care as anyone else.

The funny thing is, so many of my clients have the exact same thought. They’ve never met each other, but they all share this same selfless concern — and it speaks volumes about the kind of people they are. The truth is, those clients are also worried about taking a spot from you.

Thank you for thinking of others — it’s one of the things I admire most about the people I work with. But it’s not selfish to book when you need it, and it’s not selfish to book simply because you want it. Massage isn’t only for fixing something that’s broken; it’s also for maintaining your well-being, so you can keep showing up the way you do.

Massage and Pregnancy

  • Yes. In most cases, massage is perfectly safe and can be incredibly supportive during pregnancy. If your pregnancy is considered high-risk, it’s a good idea to check in with your doctor or midwife first.

During your session, I’ll avoid or work gently through certain areas that can be more sensitive during pregnancy, and we’ll adapt your position so you’re fully supported and comfortable. Every session is tailored to you and how you’re feeling that day.

  • You can receive massage at any stage of pregnancy, as long as there are no medical concerns that make it unsafe for you. I’ve worked with clients in their first trimester right through to their due date.

We’ll adapt your position as your body changes, using supportive bolsters and pillows so you can relax safely and comfortably, whether you’re early on or just days away from meeting your baby.

  • Every postpartum journey is different. Some clients feel ready within a couple of weeks, while others need more time. If you’ve had no major complications during birth and recovery, you can often return as soon as you feel comfortable getting to and from the table. If you’ve had a cesarean or complications, it’s best to check in with your doctor or midwife first.

Sometimes your uterus needs to be fully healed before returning to a face-down position. When you do come in, we can adapt your positioning and pace, work around tender areas, and make sure you feel supported.

  • Absolutely. If you want your baby close by, they’re welcome here. You can breastfeed during the session, have your baby resting on you, or keep them beside you in a bassinet, stroller, or carrier.

We’ll adapt the treatment so you’re both comfortable — whether that means adjusting your position, working in shorter segments, or taking breaks as needed. My goal is for you to feel cared for without having to be apart from your little one.

  • Infant massage is a calm, connected time for you and your baby. You’ll be hands-on the whole time while I guide you through gentle techniques to help your little one relax and ease things like digestion discomfort.

If your baby is under 12 months, I’ll stay hands-off and talk you through each step so you feel confident trying it at home. Once they’re 12 months or older, I can be hands-on if that’s something you’re comfortable with. My goal is for you to leave feeling supported, with simple tools you can use anytime to comfort and connect with your baby.

  • Yes. I’m lucky to work with clients at all stages of life, including many who are at the beginning and middle of building their families. It’s such a joy to support them through pregnancy and postpartum, and to watch their families grow over time.
